Summary: The Air Conditioning Technician is responsible for installing and repairing refrigeration and air conditioning systems as well as monitoring, maintaining and repairing plumbing and sewage systems. Monitors refrigeration system daily for performance efficiency. Makes adjustments to mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in system to maintain efficiency. Diagnoses problems with refrigeration and air conditioning units and performs repairs. Drills holes and installs mounting brackets and hangers into floor and walls of building. Screws, bolts, rivets, welds, and brazes parts to assemble structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, and pipes. Cuts, threads, and connects pipe to functional components and water or power system of premise. Pumps specified gas or fluid into air conditioning system. Dismantles malfunctioning systems and tests components. Replaces or adjusts defective or worn parts to repair systems. Insulates shells and cabinets of systems. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, water heaters, hot water tanks, and water softeners. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. Welds holding fixtures to steel structural members. Prepare preliminary investigations in areas for justification of proposed changes and/or additions to plant equipment requested by operating departments. Develops specification for new equipment such as turbines, pipes, fans, valves, regulators, controls, etc. Adds chemicals such as caustic, sulfuric acid, or superfloc A130 to disinfect and deodorize water and other liquids. Inspects equipment or monitors operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions. Collects and test water and sewage samples, using test equipment Records operational data and meter and gauge readings on specified forms. Operates and adjusts controls on equipment to clarify water and process or dispose of sewage. Maintains, repairs, and lubricates equipment, using hand tools and power tools. Cleans and maintains tanks and other work areas using hand tools and power tools. Monitors and adjusts pH levels using specified chemicals Collects daily water samples for borough officials Directs and coordinates plant workers engaged in routine operations and maintenance activities. Responds to "call-in" request for service. Works flexible hours to meet project/task deadlines. Communicates with Manager regarding task assignment, task completion and deviation from task schedule. Maintains and completes task schedule including written and verbal requests. Communicates suggestions, questions and concerns to manager. Works professionally, efficiently and positively with minimal supervision.
